Settling-In

One of the first things we had to do once we arrived at the Dome was sort out our food, so that we knew what we had, could order in what we need, and wouldn’t eat it all in the first month. Here’s an awesome shot of us in full-blown food sorting mode:

In the midst of all this, there was a hurricane warning and it was pretty windy and we could hear things flapping around on the outside of the Dome. We requested our first EVA on that first day to check out the outside of the Dome and make sure everything was battened-down properly. Zak and Sophie went out, with Neil acting as HabCom inside the Dome, and Jocelyn keeping records of the event. Here’s Zak… or Sophie… outside on the EVA:

Everything looked good, and we were good to go for the storm. Lessons learned on the EVA though:

– Those suits are HOT! They have 2 fans in them, but for Sophie only one was working. To be fixed.

– Allen and I got them Camelbaks of water to wear inside their suits, which they thought wouldn’t be necessary since they’d only be out for 20 min, but I wanted to try and make it as authentic as possible. Turns out it was a good idea – they both needed the water badly, it was so hot in there.

We’ve gotten the food cleared out of the way now, and are setting up the rest of our little home. It’s been a lot of fun so far.

Over and out.
